Hello and welcome to the year 2012!
Okay, it is already a week into 2012 so I’m probably not the first to say “Happy New Year” but I still want to wish you the best for your 2012.
While I’m on the ‘New Year’ topic, does your WordPress site know it is 2012 yet?
Or is the copyright info & date in your WordPress footer still say 2011, or worse – 2007 like mine used to say.
With having one site it is more of a nuisance than anything else, to go in and change the date each December 31st. Many of us might have other plans on the 31st than to tinker with our WordPress sites.
Now if you have several WordPress sites then that ‘nuisance’ quickly becomes a major headache!
Well no more!
Here is a quick tutorial on how to automate the updating of your date info in your WordPress footer.
Here is the code that you put into your WordPress footer
Copyright © 2007 – <?php echo date(‘Y’); ?>
(Make sure when you paste this code into your editor that you didn’t transfer any extra charterers through the copy/paste function)– & in the video below, I’ll detail how & where you put it. The 2007 is when my site was launched so if you want to add your WordPress sites beginning date then replace the 2007 with your sites first year unless it is a brand new site for 2012.

If you are not into viewing the video then log into your dashboard and go to the appearance sub-panel then click on editor.
Then in the right column click on the footer.php file and scroll down until you see <?php do_action( ‘twentyeleven_credits’ ); ?>
or you can use the Ctrl + F (Find function) keyboard combination to locate that exact phrase (or you could watch the 2 minute video).
At the end of the code press your enter key and on this new line is where you paste the code provided above.
If you want the date to show on a line above the “Proudly Powered By WordPress” phrase then add the following code to the end “
This should do it.
Next January 1st you will not have to worry about getting your WordPress sites copyright date updated but the phone number written on your forehead might be a bit worrisome. 😉
Thanks for checking out my post and have a great 2012.
In the event you might believe 2012 may be the end of things as we know it then here is a nice video to help calm your nerves – ENJOY!
